5 Numbers Photographers Should Track

Feb 11, 2026

If you’ve ever felt busy, booked, and still unsure where your money is actually going, you’re not alone. One of the biggest reasons photographers feel stressed about finances isn’t because they’re bad at business. It’s because they’re not tracking the right numbers.

In my latest YouTube video, I walk through the five numbers photographers should track every month to gain clarity, confidence, and control over their business finances. Not 20 metrics. Not complicated spreadsheets. Just the numbers that tell the real story of your business.

These five numbers include your total income, total expenses, profit, how much you’ve set aside for taxes, and the actual cash you have in your business bank account. When you track these consistently, you stop guessing and start making informed decisions — from pricing and investments to tax planning and cash flow.

Many photographers focus only on income, but income alone doesn’t tell you whether your business is sustainable. Tracking profit and cash in the bank helps you understand what you’re actually keeping, while tracking taxes set aside prevents stressful surprises later on.

The truth is, knowing your numbers doesn’t mean you need to love spreadsheets or become an accountant. It simply means you’re giving yourself the information you need to run your business with intention instead of reacting month to month.

If you want to learn which numbers photographers should track and how to use them to feel calmer and more confident with your money, watch the full video below.

Your business doesn’t need more hustle — it needs clarity. And that starts with knowing your numbers.
