Tax lingo can be quite confusing. It may even feel like you are learning a new language. Two terms you’ll hear a lot are “tax deductions” and “tax credits.” But what’s the difference, and how can each help you save money?
In my latest YouTube video, we break down everything you need to know about tax deductions vs. tax credits. Understanding the difference is key to maximizing your tax savings as a small business owner.
Here’s a quick overview:
1. Tax Deductions lower your taxable income by reducing the total amount of income you’re taxed on. Deductions can include business-related expenses like camera equipment, software, travel, and education. By lowering your taxable income, deductions indirectly reduce the taxes you owe.
2. Tax Credits, on the other hand, directly reduce your tax bill dollar-for-dollar. Credits can have a big impact on what you owe, potentially even resulting in a refund if they’re refundable credits.
For photographers, understanding both can make a huge difference in your tax savings. Check out the full video to learn how each works, and to get tips on tracking your expenses for maximum savings.
