Retainers are a common piece to a photography contract. Whether it is a family session, senior session, or wedding, most contracts require a client to pay a retainer to officially lock in their date with you and block off your calendar from any other inquiries. But what happens if the retainer is paid during a different calendar year than when the session occurs? How do you manage that income when it comes to tax time?
