Like the saying goes: When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
I feel like that pretty much sums up 2020 for all of us. We all had to make a decision to either figure out what to do and how to grow during this time of a pandemic, or let it swallow us whole. For me, that meant making sure I was there for all of my couples affected by the shutdown. To let them know we would figure it out and still give them the best wedding day we possibly could.
Honestly, for what we were working with, my 2020 weddings turned out to be amazing!
I was supposed to shoot my first wedding in March and didn’t end up shooting my first full wedding until mid-July! This year also brought me the opportunity to shoot a few micro-weddings. For these, a few of my couples still wanted to get married on their original date, but due to restrictions, they pushed back their full wedding celebration to another date.
My couples are truly amazing!
Since they still wanted photos from both days, I had the honor of being one of the few people in attendance on their original wedding date, to cheer with them and capture all the moments for them to share with those that couldn’t be there. It is truly an honor to be loved and welcomed by each of my couples! They each are just so special to me, and I will always hold those days close to my heart!
Even with a “new” 2020 wedding season start date of July, I still was a part of 16 BEAUTIFUL wedding days for my HMP Couples! From barn weddings to outdoor celebrations, and everything in between, so many new memories were created! I even got to experience my first intense musical chairs at a reception!
I just love how each couple made their day so unique!
Each year, I challenge myself to focus on increasing my skills in a specific part of wedding day. This year, I really wanted to up my wedding details game. Honestly, when I look back on the photos, from 2019 until now, I really feel like I did! These details are some of the moments that aren’t noticed in the midst of all the other moving parts at a wedding. I just love being able to pair them all together and really start to tell the story of the wedding and the beautiful elements that were important throughout the day.
I hope you all agree as you scroll through some of my favorite images from my 2020 weddings below!
Oh, and you know, I always ended each wedding with a bowl of ice cream as I backed up all of the images and relived the day! Stay tuned for my best of engagement sessions and senior sessions and my first ever behind-the-scenes blog post! So glad to have you with me throughout this journey!
XOXO ~ Heather Marie
