Summer Historic Ashland Wedding

As we stood under the covered porch, the rain softly fell around us for this summer Historic Ashland Wedding. Lauren’s dad and mom were posing for a picture together.

Little did he know what was about to happen.

Lauren had reached out to me a couple of weeks prior to their wedding day with an idea. She asked if there was any way she could do a first look with her dad without him having any idea it was happening. She knew if he was prepared he wouldn’t give a genuine reaction. I have done a lot of father/daughter first looks, but none quite like this.

I love a good challenge.

As wedding day rolled around, Lauren’s dad arrived right on time. We came up with the game plan that Lauren’s mom was going to meet him out on the front porch for a couple picture; then Lauren would come around the corner and surprise him by coming up behind him. As he was standing with his arm around his wife, I asked if he was ready. He excitedly said, “Yes!” At that moment, I saw Lauren start to step around the corner. I quickly backed up to pretend to get one more photo of her parents together, but instead, let the magic happen!

It was the sweetest moment.

Lauren quietly made her way behind her dad and tapped him on the shoulder. His face instantly switched to curiosity and confusion. He turned around. Those emotions quickly changed, though, to absolute joy and astonishment! He couldn’t get over how absolutely beautiful she was. He had no idea how she got there, but it didn’t matter at all. His daughter was the most beautiful thing, and he was so proud of her!

The surprise was a success!

He promised me before she came around the corner that he wasn’t a crier. That I shouldn’t expect any tears from him. That thought didn’t last very long because he couldn’t hold back the tears of joy when he turned around and saw Lauren. What a special moment for them to always remember. There were so many parts of Lauren and Collin’s day that will be hard to forget. Unlimited amounts of memories for these two to look back on.

Lauren and Collin, I can’t be more happy for the two of you. You made my job so easy! I know you always thanked me for making photos fun, but I can’t thank you enough for welcoming me into your family for the day with open arms! It was an honor to be a part of your special day! Sending you the biggest hugs and the loudest congratulations! You deserved every minute of that beautiful day!
